Outdoor Wedding Photography

For outdoor weddings it is necessary to consider and plan about wedding photos. The photographer must be made known that he has been hired for taking your wedding pictures that it is going to be held outdoors. There are different camera settings and techniques that must be used when shooting outdoors as opposed to indoors in a traditional church setting. If you will be taking your own photos, either in addition to or instead of professional ones, there are some basic tips that can help you make them the best they can be.

First, get to know your camera. Read the owner's manual a few times to learn every feature and how it works. Many of today's modern digital cameras have modes that can be employed for various conditions. For example, there may be a mode especially for outdoor photographs. There may even be settings for different types of weather including sunny and cloudy. If your camera has a self-adjusting flash, you will not need to worry about turning it on or off. The camera will sense the light level and use the flash only when necessary.

Of course, if your camera does not have a self-adjusting flash you will need to turn the flash off unless you are photographing in a dark area for whatever reason. Most of the time the natural outdoor light will be more than sufficient. Using the flash when it's not necessary can cause photos to look washed out. When taking outdoor photographs you want to capture the bride and groom in the most beautiful settings possible, such as in a romantic flower garden. Be sure to take plenty of pictures of the natural setting and wedding location in addition to the wedding pictures.

You can also find plenty of examples on the Internet. Try searching for outdoor wedding photos and see what pops up. By looking at what other people have done you can get ideas on the poses you like best and the various angles and strategies other photographers have successfully used. Wedding photos are only as good as the photographer taking them, so educate yourself and get some practice prior to the big day.
